It was a beautiful day on Sunday, September 16th, 2007. It was a new and shorter route. It was quite fun. Thanks to all volunteers who helped out all day long!

Wayson Choy – is the author of The Jade Peony (Douglas & McIntyre, 1995), which spent 26 weeks on The Globe and Mail’s bestseller in 1996, and won him the Vancouver Book Award and the Trillium Award (which he shared with Margaret Atwood) that same year. His memoir, Paper Shadows (Penguin, 1999) was shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award. In 2005 Choy was named to the Order of Canada. His most recent book All That Matters (Doubleday, 2004), won the Trillium Award and was shortlisted for the Giller Prize.

2:00 PM Pride Parade (meet up at Bloor East and Church)

We will be showing off the colors of our new Logo during the Parade this year! If you would like to participate in the march by wearing of our the ACAS colors, please contact me prior to the march.

If you would like to march with ACAS, we will be meeting at the ACAS office at 1:00 pm. We will then walk over at 1:30pm. Lunch will be provided after the parade at the ACAS office. All are welcome. Bring family and friends! Please RSVP if you plan on coming to the lunch so we have an idea of numbers.

Come out and support our fundraising initiative this year at the North Beer Garden (Pride Patio). We will be located on Church street at Hayden on Saturday and Sunday all day!!! ACAS Volunteer Core Skills Training

Open for all new volunteers & current volunteers who have not gone through core skills training in the past.

The training will be taking place over the course of three days:

Friday May 25, 5:30 – 8:30 pm
Saturday May 26, 10 am – 5:30 pm
Sunday May 27, 10 am – 5:30 pm

* Free food and drinks on all three days *

The core skills training includes anti-homophobia, HIV/AIDS 101, confidentiality and boundaries, living with HIV/AIDS, anti-oppression and more.

Media Training

ACAS had our first media training (Media 101) a while back and we were all pleased to have Mr. Kenneth Li of ONMI TV as a guest speaker. We were all benefit from his experience and insight, and it was really helpful for us. Our utmost sincere thank you to Kenneth. And we hope we will do this agin in the future.

Gao Yaojie, what one woman can do for AIDS prevention in China

Dr Gao won a few humanity award but she hardly go to accept it herself. The Chinese government just wouldn't gave her visa to go.Her work will not be go unnoticed, however.

This is Dr. Gao's blog, full of heartbreaking stories in China. It's only available in Chinese, but well worth reading.
